# Message someone from their profile

Start a conversation from someone's profile, or from the card that shows up when you point at their name.

-   The Message button is next to Follow, both on the profile and on the profile card.
-   Hold the pointer over a name or a profile photo to see the card.
-   If you already have a one-to-one conversation with that person, it opens. If not, Welley starts a new one.
-   On wider screens, the conversation opens in the Messages panel, so you don't leave the page.

Direct conversations use the optional chats app. Your server needs to install it and turn on rooms.

Each profile has a Message button. The Messages button in the corner shows your unread total and your recent conversations.

Point at a name to see a short profile card. It has a Message button too.

Message on a profile opens the conversation in a panel, and the profile stays where it is.
